Recently, I read that Americans want reassurance delivered with a smile. I beg to differ. That’s just not in our DNA.
Do you think these Americans wanted reassurance delivered with a smile when they:
Signed the Declaration of of Independence?
When an infant American nation went against the greatest military in the world at that time in the War for Independence?
When John Glenn launched into space or when Neil Armstrong walked in the moon?
When General Douglas Mac Arthur lost the Philippines to Japan then 2 yrs later went in to take it back?
When Rosa Parks took her stand against racism on a bus?
When Vivian Malone and James Hood became the first students to integrate the University of Alabama while Governor George Wallace blocked the entrance way? Do you think they were looking for reassurance with a smile??
When hundreds of members of the NYPD and FDNY along with other citizens went into the Twin Towers to rescue lives on 9/11/01?
When hundreds more NYPD and FDNY personnel were asked to be promoted to fill positions left behind by their fallen comrades? Were they looking for reassurance with a smile? We all know the answer to that question.
Courageous Common Sense citizens are everywhere and those with common sense recognize the truly brave who came before us and live right among us… and they did what they had to do when they had to do it. Americans still do. That’s common sense civics and citizenship at work. ??
