How can a free-born people support amorality without downing their society? I have been pondering this question from different angles. Let’s explore it together.
Amorality Comes In Many Forms
Amorality takes many forms. For example, we recognize murder as amoral but to support savage murder, i.e., tying mother and child together and burning them beyond recognition, beheading infants, or killing innocent people in pajamas (not in combat uniform), thus defying all rules of warfare, is also amoral.
Now that we’ve given examples of amorality let’s ponder this question: What culture does this? And what does this say of a culture that supports this?
Are We Free to Support Amoral Behavior?
America recognizes the First Amendment right to speak publicly in peaceful protest. On the negative side, when a multitude of voices that benefit from the freedoms America affords support barbarism, and those same voices are willing to commit billions to further the cause of savagery, I’m at a loss. Additionally, many of these people are immigrants who want Americans to condone in our country what they just fled.
Another form of amorality is the demand (yes, it’s happening) that Americans absolutely should find these atrocities “exhilarating.” Whatever your grievance, killing a baby in a bib or entire families in pajamas is cowardice. Such anger is misdirected. Murder is a sin, not a sport. Furthermore, taking drugs to enhance your rage and then film your attack on innocents is immoral.
Amoral vs. Civilized Behavior of Free People
Civilized, sane, free people find all of these behaviors abhorrent, not joyful or thrilling.
Instead, America is built upon the unalienable right to:
Life
Liberty
the Pursuit of Happiness (property ownership)
Furthermore, the President takes an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution..”
The Vice-President’s oath contains these words:
“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic..”
In a similar fashion, Article VI, sec. 3 tells us:
“The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution…”
Our military also takes an oath:
“I, _, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same…”
These oaths show that America while supporting freedom, delineates between right and wrong. We were not designed to be an amoral country. Why? Because our enemies within would have free reign to kill us.
