Have you checked out the number of protests going on around the globe? You may be consuming fluff for news if you aren’t aware of these things. One visual trip around the world viewing global protests causes a true American to treasure our founding American documents, especially the Bill of Rights.
Global Protests for Freedom
So, what’s up with the global protests? Why is there so much unrest? In a nutshell, human beings want personal freedom to express themselves. They want to be treated as grown-ups who choose to live and work within the confines of rational expression. They don’t wish for lawlessness. On the contrary, they yearn to be free to do what is right, for example:
love their neighbor
worship (or not worship) freely
consume actual news, not propaganda
own their property
keep the income they earn
preserve law and order, not tyranny
have criminal rights and justice
to have laws that protect citizens
So, that is what is at the root of most global protests going on today. It’s the right to be owned by their Creator, not owned by fellow citizens who run their respective governments. When you get down to it, there are only two ownership choices. You serve either one or the other.
What Americans Have
I’m so thankful for the Bill of Rights that guarantees our rights in many areas, like the right to worship freely. I like that we can choose which news sources we consume. It’s freeing to know that we can change how we worship or become a part of a new news start-up operation. We can protest peacefully without our family suffering the consequences of our dissent. I know what you may be thinking. However, the Bill of Rights in the Constitution is still the Law of the Land. Those rights remain. So does the right to have a trial by a jury of our peers. If we are jailed, we still have the right to human dignity. We can own our property. If the government desires our property, it must offer us just compensation. The above shows us what it means for the government to secure our God-given rights. As the Declaration of Independence says,
“…they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights… that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
The Fight to Keep Freedom
Accordingly, as I consume news, I am overcome with gratitude that we live in the freest nation on earth. Yes, there is always a fight to keep freedom. There will ALWAYS be people who want to take it from us.
