You know, when you hear something on the street that isn’t so, but you let it go? You don’t respond to every little thing cuz you’re not a king. So, you write a blog post. That’s where I’m at today. Maybe you can relate.
Heard on the street:
-“Only poor people go to the military.”
Anyone hear of the United States Naval Academy? West Point? Air Force Academy? Coast Guard Academy? Merchant Marine Academy? Inquiring Americans will discover that across the board, the United States military has some of our best and brightest minds who come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
-“WHEN the President is impeached, he will be thrown out of office.” Not quite. IF the House of Representatives impeaches the President, he is eligible to serve his term and run for a second term. He is removed from office as President ONLY if tried and convicted by the Senate of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.
-“The United States is a democracy.” Incorrect. It is now and always has been a Constitutional Republic.
-“The Government will pay for it.” In the United States, YOU are the government. It’s your purse. You elect people to serve you, and your taxes are the money in the government’s wallet. It is the citizens’ responsibility to elect prudent leaders who serve the people because, well, they work for us.
We hear many things with which we disagree. People are entitled to their opinions. However, knowing basic civics is a requirement when We, the People are in charge of the government. It’s just Common Sense Civics and Citizenship.??
