What happens next in the impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump? The schedule looks to be something like this:
January 28- The President’s legal team continues its defense.
Expect supporting arguments that contend it is not an impeachable offense to investigate credible evidence of corruption.
The President’s legal team may continue to present evidence to support the argument that there was corruption, but not on the part of the President.
January 29-30— Senators’ questions presented by Chief Justice John Roberts
Eight hours per day over a 2 day period, the Senators will have the opportunity to ask questions. Their questions must be written down, as the Chief Justice will ask the questions for them.
If you have a question, communicate your question to your Senator via social media or through their email on their website. State the question clearly and succinctly. Those are the ones most likely to be read.
January 31-An up or down vote to determine whether more witnesses will be called
If 51 Senators vote for more witnesses to be called, then witnesses will be called. Some say that calling witnesses is the job of the House. However, the possibility exists that more witnesses will be called, depending on the outcome of the vote.
I find it helpful to know the schedule in this unique historical event. I hope you do as well.
