I just read a community post from a woman who found her jury duty summons unsettling because she would have to miss work. With the price of eggs as they are, I understand her concerns. A bevy of responses offered this woman advice on potential excuses to “get out of jury duty.” Others used the opportunity to vent. I will list some of these suggestions and leave them here for you to assess.

Here we go…
I just tell them I’m an ex-con & everyone is innocent! Problem solved
Tell them you have overactive bladder & will need lots of potty breaks!
Have you ever heard of a civic duty? its how the system works. when you are on trial you had better hope there are jurors happy and willing to serve.
I’m retired (semi) and if i was on trial i wouldn’t want a bunch of old stuffy, crotchety, set in there ideas from yesteryear people deciding my fate- old doesn’t equal wiser…
I think high school kids should be on jury duty because some of them are just as d*mb as the criminals ! ! ! LOL
I have yet to actually be selected to be on a jury. I have sat around at a courthouse for up to two days during selection procedures.
Just think about yourself. If you were accused of a crime would you want a jury of your peers or a bunch of (what you call retirees) deciding your fate?
Well, the wisdom of a lifetime, knowing right from wrong, intact morals, knowing BS when they hear it, and the time to dedicate to the task…..
I think it’s every American citizen’s civic duty to do!! Bad guys go free because no jurors and they have a right to a speedy trial!!
It’s sad when people don’t respect the laws and court system.
I’m always aggravated by them too. I think its our driver’s license that gets our name in the hat. Really hard for me to see this as civic duty when our judicial system is more political than judicial.
Little tip -the flyer they send you tells you to park in the parking garages that will eat up pretty much all your $25 check if your there all day you can just park in the jail parking lot for free there will be plenty of parking early in the morning
Everyone’s time should be considered equally valuable. Jury duty is a civic duty. Take your turn when called upon.
I am retired and have zero desire to do jury duty. I have had to attend more than once. The seats kill my back. I was there one day for over 12 hours through the entire jury selection. Never got picked. Had to walk back to my garage in that God awful parking garage alone, which smells worse than a outhouse and my pups were home for the entire time without a potty break. If I have to do it so does everyone else!
A final thought…
In time, as more localities allow noncitizens to vote, could the jury pool include noncitizens be far behind? I can’t help but wonder.
