Take a walk around the world in your mind. Don’t people everywhere assume that the rich and powerful get (or take) all the leadership positions? But are they the natural leaders that people follow? In our precarious times, this is an important question. Who has the title of “leader”? Do the people respect and follow that person, or do they follow another?
“The cream always rises to the top.” Years ago, this was a saying about leadership. I think it still holds true today. Real leaders rise to the occasion. Let’s examine leadership by speaking ideas and principles.
Again, walk around the world in your mind. Think of 3 or 4 leaders that have that title. Who is doing the actual job of leading? What makes them true leaders?
-Do they have the people’s best interests in mind?
-Are they willing to do what they ask other people to do?
-Do they cast a vision of what peace and security look like?
-Do they have “grit?”
-Are they approachable?
-Are they brave?
-Are they teachable and adaptable?
-Are they people of action, not just talk?
-Are they self-aware, knowing their weaknesses and strengths?
-Do they love and respect liberty and law?
-Are they willing to do the right thing, not the expedient thing?
Appeasement in the face of tyranny most often leads to a fatal ending.
The point of this article is to examine leadership in a crisis. We the People are facing several crisis fronts. We ought not to be people who can be easily fooled by appearances, money, power, or the media.
