(Once again, I am sharing The Honor Project, a Memorial Day 2023 event of The Travis Manion Foundation that will inspire you).
People continually express in the comments how concerned they are for our country. I can only tell you that I look daily for evidence that America is full of people who love their country. Regardless of how dire circumstances appear, I still believe that Americans will rise to the challenge.
The Honor Project
Here is one example that made my day and hopefully yours. I was listening to an interview with a guest from the Travis Manion Foundation. She was talking about The Honor Project, which remembers the names of our fallen soldiers and encourages loved ones to share their stories. They are mobilizing volunteers to visit our national heroes buried at Arlington National Cemetery this Memorial Day weekend on behalf of their families and friends. Obviously, families want to visit the final resting place of their fallen loved ones, but not everyone can do this for any number of reasons.
Enter The Honor Project. If you submit your fallen hero’s name, volunteers will learn their name and visit their gravesite at the Arlington National Cemetery during the Memorial Day weekend. They will place a commemorative Flags of Valor flag at their gravesite. I am so moved that volunteers care enough about our fallen heroes, strangers to them but not to God or their families. That they would take the time to fight the traffic in Washington D.C. to go to the gravesite to remember speaks volumes about who we are as a people.
The Benefits
This year, the spokesperson for #thehonorproject talked about how she became involved as a volunteer. She spoke with family members of some of the fallen. Hearing the fallen heroes’ stories strengthened her character and gave her courage. Initially, she started with just a name on a gravestone.
The American spirit is alive and well. Honor and respect still exist. Volunteering remains the lifeblood of our country. I, for one, am so encouraged by stories like this. Thanks for letting me share it with you.
