What is the most disputed American concept these days? It is found in the Declaration of Independence. “…that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights..”
Here are three reasons why Americans would dispute this claim as untrue:
First, they might be receiving their civics lessons from their favorite t.v. personalities, popular unbelieving politicians, or atheist professors, adopting their soulless but entertaining ideas, devoid of wonder, lacking any positivity. I submit to you that these misinformed Americans no longer want to do the hard work of thinking for themselves, preferring entertainment to a classical education.
Why teaching the Declaration matters for citizens
Next, Americans may never have read our founding American documents, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. (How do you dismiss what you do not know?)
Finally, some may question the idea of a Higher Power who grants them their natural rights, which cannot be taken away. They prefer to trust fallible, failed humans in government to grant them their fundamental rights to life, liberty, and property, which these rulers can and do take away at will. A basic knowledge of unrevised history demonstrates this.
From illiteracy to reverence: fixing civic education
Common Sense Civics and Citizenship asks us to think, examine evidence, read more, and recognize a culture shifting from truth and beauty to one focused on entertainment.
Do you think reconnecting civics education to the Declaration and Constitution could restore respect for the Creator as granting our unalienable rights?
This is Common Sense Civics and Citizenship. 🇺🇸
