“Every time you throw dirt on her, you lose a little ground.”- George Strait.
We digest a lot of “dirt” as Americans. Shovels full, in fact. A lot of “dirt” gets thrown in our “everyday” in the form of fake news, bending the law, starting arguments to move an agenda forward, and slander. We seem to prefer language that entertains rather than educates. We have become prey to sensationalism over understanding one another. As an example, “dirt” gets thrown on this page in the form of name-calling, expletives, and venting. BTW, those posts get deleted. I believe in discussing principles where we can learn, rather than slamming personalities, which doesn’t teach us anything.
Shoveling and Losing Ground Is Tiring
“Dirt” is thrown by us and at us in the workplace. Today, almost everywhere we turn, everything is an argument rather than an attempt to understand. Families and friendships break down because, frankly, no one really likes to have dirt thrown on them or worse, be the one slinging mud daily. I think the reason is that we get tired of losing good ground. It’s no way to live as a free people.
How Do We “Clean Up Our Act?”
Has America become a place where it is “normal” to throw dirt at each other? If so, why? What is a common-sense approach to “cleaning up our act” as individual Americans? How do we return to a common-sense, civilized society? How do we shift the focus from conflict to collaboration? Seeking to understand and giving respect to our fellow Americans would be a positive start.
Unwind from the “Dirt” Trap
Yes, sometimes the best solution is to walk away. Most often, it is wise to remain calm and silent until you can gain ground by gathering your thoughts and taking appropriate measures to unwind from the “dirt” trap. What other mature ideas do you have for returning our society to civility? Leave your ideas below. As usual, keep your comments civil with no name-calling of any political figures or political parties. No additional pictures or links, please.
