“We, the People”. Those. Three. Words. We memorized them as kids but I’m not sure we can really appreciate them until we pay bills, taxes and vote. I can say from experience that I memorized the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution as a kid but I never truly understood what “We, the People” meant until I studied the U. S. Constitution as an adult.
The idea that WE run the government and that government employees work for us was revolutionary to me. It opened up a new way of thinking about how to live as an American.
Those three words require me to live active, not passive, as a citizen. I realize that I am to be informed and engaged in our government because I help run it!
“We, the People.” What a privilege we have!
