Common Sense Civics and Citizenship (“we”, “us”) runs civicsandcitizenship.org. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site, sign up for email updates, or contact us, and how we use it.
Information you give us
- Newsletter sign-up. Your name and email address. We use them to send you our email updates. Sign-ups are confirmed by email before you are subscribed.
- Contact and speaking-invitation forms. Your name, email address and the details you write in your message. We use them to reply to you.
We do not sell your personal information.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, some information is collected by the services below: the pages you view, how you arrived, approximate location (city or region), device and browser type, and how you interact with pages.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC), loaded through Google Tag Manager, measures visits and actions such as sign-ups. Cookies: _ga, _ga_*. We keep event-level data for 14 months.
- Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation) records anonymized page interactions such as clicks and scrolling, so we can see how the site is used and fix problems. Cookies: _clck, _clsk.
- Jetpack Stats (Automattic) counts page views for our site dashboard.
- Google reCAPTCHA (Google LLC) protects our forms from spam. It uses information about your device and interaction with the form.
You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) and block cookies in your browser settings. Our site does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” signals.
Services that process data for us
- Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.) stores our email list and sends our updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Hosting and security: Kinsta (on Google Cloud) hosts the site; Cloudflare and NitroPack deliver it faster and protect it; Wordfence logs IP addresses to block attacks.
- Embedded content: videos from YouTube and posts from Facebook may set their own cookies when you view or interact with them. Their own privacy policies apply.
- Mere Agency manages the site’s technical setup, search visibility and analytics on our behalf.
How long we keep information
Form messages stay in our website database until we delete them. Newsletter subscribers stay on our list until they unsubscribe. Analytics data is kept as described above.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information you gave us, and you can unsubscribe from our emails at any time.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date.
