Do you think tribalism is America’s future? I always thought “tribal” meant “ethnic only.” People can divide over many types of differences: political, economic, or social differences are a few examples. I recently learned that countries in Africa became tribal. They were not necessarily inherently tribal. What about the former Czechoslovakia? At one point, they were together, but now they are two separate countries.
How does this happen? As I consider this issue, countries that drift apart, where one segment of the population no longer shares a common goal or interest with the other, separate from one another. They lose trust in their fellow countrymen.
A tribal revenge and retribution cycle leads to a rift in the nation.
National loyalty and a shared common interest are essential to prevent tribalism.
Perhaps one of the greatest questions of our time is, “How do we prevent our nation from falling into tribalism, then falling apart?
It would not be good for the world if America joined the ranks of tribal societies.
I explore this problem in today’s article, “Fraternal Affection vs. Factional Fury.”
