The “Cloward-Piven strategy” was developed by sociologists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven in the 1960s. I was an observer in a conversation of intellectual types that included people who believe this is what is happening in the United States.
The description of this political theory/strategy varies, depending on who you talk to. Although it was dismissed as a failed experiment in the 1960s and 1970s, the strategy is still mentioned, so we should be aware of its intention to transform the United States into something our Founding Fathers never intended.
Defining the Cloward-Piven Strategy
In general, the Cloward-Piven strategy is described as a back-door plan to change a country into a welfare state. I also read a friend’s definition that describes it as a multi-step plan to destabilize a country’s institutions through mass immigration and welfare policies. Another way this strategy has been defined is to organize anti-poverty groups to create a political crisis, thereby causing a redistribution of wealth through the federal government and a new type of leadership.
Regardless of which definition is used, the chain reaction of creating chaos that leads to crisis, ultimately ending in collapse and opening the door to a new government takeover, is the general strategy.
How the Cloward‑Piven Plan Creates Political Crisis
-Create a large welfare class by providing benefits to an increasing number of groups, thereby fueling the growth of this underclass.
-The more people who receive welfare benefits, the greater the demand increases.
-Soon, there will be a lack of wealth producers to supply and support this burgeoning welfare class.
-Now, there are not enough social service providers to care for this underserved population.
-Panic, despondency, and desperation are the result of such a crisis.
-The government steps in to “help” solve the crisis, but by failing to do so, it opens the door to new leadership that promises to rescue the population.
A Call to Civic Awareness
Is the Cloward-Piven strategy a national goal? No, it is not, but remnants of this theory remain a topic of conversation from time to time. By staying vigilant and informed, we will not be taken by surprise if we see elements of the Cloward-Piven strategy attempt to enter our national scene. After all, a vigilant, informed electorate is the first line of defense against “engineered” crises.
