Understanding Today’s Youth Political Trends
I’m still sorting out why so many young people are voting for communists these days. The thought resonated with me that, for this generation, supporting communism (what they call “democratic socialism”) vocally and by voting, these young people feel like they are doing something to fix America’s problems.
In other words, the attitude is that “someone is to blame and we need to fix this. We need something new.” At the same time, these young people are living at home while they want to move out on their own. Since they can’t afford it, they stay under their parents’ roof, but just like latent teenagers, they give a resounding “no way” to whatever their elders support. They grab on to whatever the politicians, press, professors, or peers say.
Are Young Adults Avoiding Responsibility?
When you drill down, aren’t these 20-somethings the cause of their own circumstances? Aren’t they responsible for the choices they’ve made due to fear of growing up and facing the situation?
-There are jobs, but it’s not their dream job. Well, young people used to knock on doors and pass out resumes until someone opened the door or read the resume. We didn’t consider closed doors as failures. Instead, it was one more step toward the job we would get.
Shifting from Groupthink to Individual Growth
-There are skills to learn, but the foolishness of youth says “shah nah nah live for today and don’t worry about tomorrow hey hey.” So, they play as hard as they can for as long as they can.
-There is a peer group to leave behind, but traveling in packs with groupthink is easier than growing up and taking responsibility. When you take responsibility, you develop yourself, have goals in mind, and pursue them.
Encouraging Productive Workforce Entry
Do you have a younger person in your life like this? How do you help them enter the workforce? Usually, productive entry into the workforce changes attitudes. Instead of voting in a new government to “parent” and take care of you, train up, level up, and get a new job. That’s called “growing up.”
