Tuesday, November 11, is Veterans Day. Finding a conversation about real American heroes can sometimes be difficult. Instead, headlines often feature controversy or political debate. Why not commemorate and celebrate our eternally vigilant men and women who are America’s courageous living heroes? After all, Veterans know better than most what it takes to preserve true freedom. We all could use a humble reminder of their motivating courage, bravery, and love of country.
Reflecting on a Veteran’s Journey
Veterans are considered heroes by Americans who appreciate fellow citizens with strength and courage that appear to come from beyond themselves. Veterans Day brings stories and adventures of Marvel-like superheroes to life, that is, if you can get the humble Veteran to open up and talk about them. Veterans possess humility in a society where getting the most attention on social media is the highest admired attribute. A veteran’s humility goes contrary to that standard.
Moreover, Veterans faithfully served our country, expecting nothing in return. The Veteran is important because they play down their success and hold memories close to their hearts. They remember, first and foremost, never to leave a fellow warrior behind. (This act of selflessness is so amazing to me.) And they did all they could to keep that oath. This is otherworldly, as we witness the way of countries that leave fellow soldiers behind.
Stories of Heroic Service Inspire Us
Given these points, the Veteran is important because we need examples of selfless service to propel us to higher goals. These incredible human beings have inspiring stories to share in an era where real heroes are seldom acknowledged. They can help us put the trivial and the shocking into perspective.
We can benefit from more stories of American bravery, loyalty, and courage in today’s world. A heartfelt thank-you to all our veterans! We appreciate your service to our country!
