What makes us American, if not a common language? The answer lies in what we believe. Our beliefs shape our behavior and, ultimately, our identity.
We Know Who We Are
-We are a freeborn people. Therefore, we endeavor to learn our Founding American documents and pass them on to our posterity. These documents are a cornerstone of and to the American way of life.
-We recognize the value of a government of, by, and for the people; equal justice under the law; that all men (people) are created equal, not born equal; and that our rights—life, liberty, and property—come from God, not the government.
We Know How To Think
-We think like Americans. That is, we acknowledge that freedom means many things to many people. We are not defined by our differences but by the founding principles of our country.
We Know What Works
-We endeavor to speak the same language because we value English as a language of success and unity. Also, communication is key in any relationship. However, we also recognize that preserving one’s native language is valuable to one’s heritage. Being multilingual is a gift.
-All of the above makes Americans hardworking, action-oriented, ambitious, competitive, self-starting, and freedom-loving people. Belief determines behavior. What we believe and how we behave is what makes us uniquely American.
What would you say makes YOU an American?
